The ending of a beloved series always deserves mixed reviews, and this book is no different. We have all watched Lena, Tibby, Carmen and Bridget grow together and apart for years now. We all connect to the characters, and we all want to see where their lives are going in hopes of receiving a little insight as to where our own lives will end up.The themes in the fourth Sisterhood book varies little from the others--sex, self-identity, family unity--but the characters are more complex and dealing with more adult feelings. Tibby has a pregnancy scare, Lena begins to question why she is hanging on to her virginity, Bridget realizes she needs to do something to communicate with her family, and Carmen tries to regain her identity as a powerful woman.
I am still trying to figure out exactly how I feel about this novel, but I do know I did not find it as powerful as the first and second books, nor as entertaining as the third. I felt there were a lot of elements introduced in the other books that seemed to have no bearing on the events in this book, but I still felt satisfied with the final decision of the Pants in relation to the lives of the girls it had affected.
The books in general have made me more grateful for the Sisters in my life. We live all over the world and face our different challenges, but we are united by our past interactions with each other as well as knowing that someday, our paths will come together again. That is what the Pants have brought to my life.

I really enjoyed this final installment of the Traveling Pants series. While I understand some of the other reviewers surprise at the change in the characters, I think Brashares does a good job at portraying the life changes of young women transitioning from high school to college.
I don't think it's fair to expect that our girls will always remain the same characters as those we met in books 1-3. The first year of college is one of self-discovery. I heartily disagree with the person who said that Carmen was the most far out of the returning characters -- I actually had an experience similar to hers. Carmen went from being top dog in her high school and among her friends to only one average fish in the sea at college. Her subsequent weight gain and hibernation is therefore understandable. Ultimately she comes into her own and shines with talent in the field of acting. That doesn't come as a surprise to me!
And as for Tibby -- it's an unfortunate reality that many young women are faced with the same predicament she was in this book. Not all, but many. While I understand that some parents of young teenagers may not want them to be exposed to this issue, again Brashares does a good job of folding her characters into some of the challenges that come with growning up and college and portraying them in a real and heart-felt way. The world is opening up to Carmen, Lena, Tibby, and Bee and they all respond in different ways to this reality.
That said, I did find a few plot points to be sort of random, such as the return of Kostos out of nowhere and the impromptu trip to Greece. It seemed that Brashares was tieing up some loose ends before the series conclusion. All in all I found this to be a good read and an appropriate conclusion to the wonderful Traveling Pants series.
I loved the first three books in the Sisterhood series but I felt like this one fell a bit...flat?
Carmen Totally out of character, which is sad because she was always strong and funny before. I found it unrealistic that one sad year in college would change Carmen from a lion to a field mouse, I though her personality was much stronger than that. In fairness, she did come back in the end, but it felt a little too late. I also missed Win. Why would she break it off if she was lonely? Shouldn't it make her want him more?
Tibby She was in character and her storyline was probably the most interesting to me. She's been dating Brian for over a year now and decides to take their relationship to a physically intimate level. Okay. Perfectly realistic. The part of this storyline I was dissapointed in was Brian. Tibby notes that he was pushing sex on her for a lot of their relationship even though she didn't appear to be ready and the fact that he travels every weekend hours on end just to see her made me wonder if he wasn't more interested in getting lucky than seeing her. If not he seemed far to clingy and when Tibby dumped him I wanted her to stick by the decision. I also didn't like that the way Tibby realized she wanted him back was by getting jealous after seeing him with Lena's sister. Shallow much?
Bridget Was also fairly in character but I thought her chasing after another man in Turkey (why did she up and decide to go to Turkey anyway?) was stupid. She had worked so hard and pined so long for Eric I didn't really believe that a few months apart would make her love him any less. It never did before!
Lena Was completely a shocker to me. I'll save the details but why would khaki skirted Lena become a nude model and be intimate with a man she barely even knew when she couldn't even get to that point with Kostos who she loved? And where was Paul? He wasn't even mentioned in the book! I'd much rather she at least had her little fling with him!
The book was still cute and enjoyable but didn't have the charm of the former books. The girls didn't really even feel like close friends anymore. I wish Brashares had another book to redeem the characters but alas, she doesn't.
